FAQ – Gods & Goddesses

Is this Retreat just for Women, or can men come too?

Men, women, couples, singles, friends etc, this Retreat is open to anyone. We do have a separate Retreat on the 28th May that is women only, but this retreat on the 21st May is open to anyone.

We’d like to come as a couple…

Great, you’ll have a fabulous time with activities together and/or separately depending on your needs. Each person must register and attend as a full paying guest. We can offer more challenging surf options and an alternative to two of the pamper sessions, please just let us know ahead of time.

How does this Retreat differ from the Women only Retreats?

Both Retreats are pretty much the same and follow the same formula. The difference is that on this Retreat, there will be options for more experienced surfers to go to a more challenging surf break. Also, if men prefer they can swap 2 of their pamper treatments for an alternative, just let us know if you’d like to arrange for this.

How will I access the more challenging surf breaks?

Newbro Surf School will provide surf trips for those guests wanting a more challenging wave. Newbro are locally owned, established 2009 and fully supported by Lembongan Surf Team (LST).

Newbro instructors are experienced, highly skilled local surfers. Each instructor has knowledge of all the local waves, and taken international surf instructor courses.

How can I get my share of waves?

With our local surf guides on your team, you will get all the knowledge you need and get to the right spot at the right time to ensure you have the best chance of getting your fair share of the waves. This makes all the difference when you are here for a limited time!

Will this Retreat also start on the weekend?

Yes, Guests have consistently said that starting the Retreat on Saturday was important to them, it allows guests to travel to Bali on a Friday afternoon, and utilise their weekend well.

With so many retreats to choose from, why is yours special?

YogaOne Ocean Earth Retreats give you a personalised Retreat on which Sasha and Waveney plan and deliver all of the important details of the Retreat so they are absolutely sure about the level of service and value for money you will receive. Many other retreats utilise service providers to deliver their retreats in part or whole. They have lived and tested all the details of the Retreats, and will take each step of the journey with you, so they know you will have the highest possible standard of service.

Our YogaOne Ocean Earth Retreats strike a beautiful balance between activity, pampering and rejuvenation, so you can reset you metabolism, inner balance and spirit.

On the Earth, your yoga practice will blossom during this moderate immersion as you explore energising, light and meditation yoga. Whether you are an absolute newby to yoga or a committed practitioner, Sasha’s experience and warmth will guide you to make meaningful progression during your stay.

On the Ocean, you will choose between Surfing, StandUp Paddle Boarding and Snorkelling, or all three! Beginners are always catered for, in fact we’ve found Beginners are the main clients and Waveney has a special way of making your debut and first forays fun, safe and empowering! More experienced surfers can choose to surf a more challenging break.

We have selected our Resort with a focus on professionalism and beautiful design as well as excellent facilities, safety and hygiene. We are pleased to advise that our Indonesian resort Batu Karang is owned and run by Australians who share our interests in the highest level of care and standards.

Other Retreats might look the same on paper, but scratch the surface and these details show through.

I’m thinking of going by myself, will this work?

Sure! Plenty of people have travelled solo and thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

If appropriate, we can try to match you up with a suitable room-mate if you want to share, just let us know.

Some of the rooms are ‘Double’ not Twin-share, do I have to share a bed?

No. It’s up to you if you want to share. All rooms will comfortably accommodate an additional single bed at no extra cost to you. You’ll need to ‘rock, paper, scissors’ with your room mate though as to who gets the double!

I’m new to yoga or haven’t done it for a while is that ok.

Yes, Sasha will adjust the poses to suit your level and abilities. Classes are suitable for everybody and of course participation is optional. Always listen to your own body and ask for assistance or variations if you feel the need. Remember, all classes are optional and if you’d prefer to sneak in an extra surf or SUP instead, no problems.

I haven’t tried meditation before, what should I expect?

Sasha will guide you through a couple of calming yoga poses, and then talk you through a relaxation technique to quiet the mind, before you find your bliss with a head, neck and shoulder massage. Timed before bed you’ll find your sleep improves. Of course the nightly meditation is optional but feedback has said this is the best part!

I’ve never surfed/Sup’ed before is it a good place to learn?

Yes. Many of our guests have never surfed before and they thrive with the warm water, easy beginners soft boards and supportive atmosphere of all women. Waveney is an Australian qualified and experienced surf coach who will get you up on your feet.

We also have the assistance of a professional local surf school, whose instructors are experienced, highly skilled local surfers. Each instructor has knowledge of all the local waves and have taken international surf instructor surf courses.

You don’t need a wetsuit, the water is warm enough without one, but a rashie and sun hat are a good idea for sun protection and comfort. If you prefer a wetsuit, a light one is best.

I’m not sure if I want to surf/SUP each day, or follow the itinerary exactly is that ok?

Yes. The Itinerary is designed to maximise your experience during your stay at a steady pace. If you want to take time out to do your own thing, feel free.

Do I need to bring my own mat, board or snorkel equipment?

No. All equipment is supplied, but of course bring your own if you’d prefer.

I think I can save a few dollars on another similar retreat, what do you think?

The ‘devil is in the detail’ as they say, beware many retreats sound similar and have saved money particularly on accommodation standards, mainland Bali locations and outsourcing.

We are an original yoga, ocean experience & spa retreat for women, by women, who guarantee a caring and quality experience. The trimmings you’ll experience won’t be found on other similar priced retreats. Whilst we are continually trying to improve the price for you, we won’t compromise on selecting luxurious accommodation in the best location, exquisite food and dining, safe reliable facilities, qualified instructors, luxury spa treatments and cultural experiences.

What is the weather like?

May and June fall into the ‘dry season’, the air temperature is around 90° F or 30° F, the water temperature is around 27 degrees. It is sunny and warm during the day and cooler at night (not below25 degrees).

Do I need to be fit to join in the yoga and surf/SUP?

You need to have a general level of fitness. You don’t need to be an athlete. If you are surfing, SUPing or snorkelling you need to be a competent swimmer. If you have injuries or conditions you need to let us know so we can cater for and guide you safely. The Retreats are for real women by real women so no need to feel self conscious about you body type or athletic ability, everyone has fun and there’s no pressure or competition.

What type of surf break and SUP conditions should I expect?

Surf

The island has three main breaks that can be enjoyed by the beginner to the more experienced surfer. All breaks are dependent on tides with best conditions on mid to high tides.

Playgrounds is an easy surf spot to get to, especially as Batu Karung overlooks this very break. A short stroll down to Coconuts Beach from our resort, Playgrounds is a sheltered reef break providing reliable and enjoyable surf conditions. It has a fun, long left and (depending on the tide) a shorter barrelling right-hander. On a smaller swell Playgrounds is an ideal spot for beginners.

There are other surf breaks nearby for experienced surfers, Lacerations and Shipwrecks.  If you are an experienced surfer, we can organise a boat ride to get you out to these breaks.

If the surf is non existent in Nusa Lembongan, we can organise a 15 minute boat ride to Cenigan Island where you will find a good 2-4ft left hander. Best on mid tide, this wave has some testing sections to make. Tends to close out on larger swells, but a great option when there are no waves at Nusa Lembongan.

Be rest assured, we will also have the help of local experts, and extra local surf instructors on hand to help us with the most suitable surf destinations for the day given tides and swell conditions, be that for beginners or more experienced surfers.

Nusa Lembongan is the ideal place to learn to surf or get a few lessons to re-ignite your surfing confidence.

SUP

We are staying in the perfect location for SUP’ing. As mentioned, Coconuts Beach is a short stroll down from our beautiful resort, Batu Karung. We can take you on a paddle around the pontoons nearby, out to Playgrounds surf break to watch the surfers close up or just simply paddle around to view the beautiful coral underwater. The water around Nusa Lembongan is some of the clearest you will find anywhere, and a vivid aqua blue in colour.

What is the boat trip like from mainland Bali to Nusa Lembongan?

The boat trip from Sanur to Nusa Lembongan Island is approx 30mins.  It is a fast boat and a short trip, however if you suffer from seasickness, it is recommended you prepare yourself in case you feel unwell.

Rocky’s fast boat offers complimentary transfers from selected destinations i.e. the Airport, Jimbaran, Kuta, Seminyak, Nusa Dua, Legian & Sanur. You need to be at the Sanur terminal in time for a 12 noon departure.

Do I organise my own flights?

Yes. Schedule your flights so that you can comfortably meet the Rocky’s Fast Boat transfer from Bali mainland that departs at 12 noon. Be sure to utilise Rockys Fast Boat free pick up and drop off service from your hotel to the ferry terminal (see pick up locations included above). Your Hotel receptionist can help you with this, or let us know your location prior to your travel and we’ll pre arrange for you.

Check in on Nusa Lembongan is at 1pm Day 1 and Check out is 11am Day 5.

You will arrive at DPS (airport code) – Denpasar, Bali, Indonesia. Many Hotels and accommodation provide complimentary transfer, so be sure to ask them and pre arrange this if you are staying in Bali mainland prior to the Retreat.

Ensure your passport has at least 6 months validity from the time you travel, again check these sort of details with your travel agent.

We recommend Hello World Dunsborough for all your flight and Bali Mainland travel requirements, dunsborough@helloworld.com.au +61 897 553122 (ASTA accredited); @thelembongantraveller will happily assist you with any Nusa Lembongan travel requirements +61 0419 947 594.

Do I need a Visa or Departure Tax for DPS , Bali?

At the time of writing, many Countries are issued a Tourist visa to Indonesia on arrival for 30 days at US $35, but you should check the current advice with your travel agent prior to departure. Check for yourself the current advice before you travel.

On leaving, some travelers will need to pay a Departure Tax, Australians with tickets purchased after March 2015, will have this included in their flight tickets. Currently the tax is Rupiah 200,000. Variations can occur with little or no notice.

Should I bring much money to spend?

You won’t have a lot of expenses but might wish to purchase alcohol, extra treatments, sundries or shop at the markets. You should bring cash as the Island only has one ATM and that could be unreliable. You can exchange major currencies for Rupiah on the Island.

Do I need travel and medical insurance?

Yes. Guests must arrange their own travel, medical and liability insurance. Check your medical insurance covers travel to Bali Indonesia and water sports.

Is Alcohol available?
